What is the difference between Prefinished and Unfinished?

Prefinished wood is stained and finished at the factory while Unfinished is stained and finished on the job site.
PRO's of Prefinished

  • Prefinished with 3-9 coats
  • Ultraviolet cured with urethane finish
  • Speedy on-site job completion (since no
    sanding /staining /coating is necessary).
  • Installation is less expensive but the cost of
    prefinished wood is more expensive so it
    evens out cost-wise.
CON's of Prefinished

  • Cannot choose a custom stain
  • Bumpy finish.  Planks will not have even
    height whereas if the floor was sanded, it
    would have an even, smooth finish.
  • Trims won't match planks
